Abstract

In this work we present the biographical study of Everardo Velasco Delgado, a professor whose contributions strengthened the educational model of the rural teacher training school (ENR) in Mexico, an institution that inherited pedagogical postulates that emerged under the auspices of the Mexican rural school educational movement.

Methodologically, the work is located in the tradition of biographical-narrative research, giving particular importance to what was developed by the professors (Huchim and Reyes, 2013). It is an attempt to tell the story of a person, drawing on various sources to make sense of the facts and events that marked a stage of the school institution. To achieve this goal, we had the opportunity to personally interview Professor Everardo Velasco Delgado[i], but other sources were also consulted to expand and give meaning to the story; oral testimonies were obtained from former students and former professors who studied or worked at the ENRM between 1960 and 1980, newspapers from the time were consulted, as well as the private archives of some former professors, and also the archives of the University of Sciences and Arts of Chiapas (AHUNICACH) and those of the SEP (AHSEP).

We believe the significance of our work lies in not only highlighting the contributions of a figure, but also, through him and his work, showcasing the unique characteristics of an institution.

With the findings obtained, we aim to recognize the work of Professor Everardo Velasco Delgado, highlighting the subject and his work, and understanding the ENRM as the fruit of the labor of individuals with names and surnames.
