Tourism and Employment in the city of Concordia: Challenges and opportunities for decent work from the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda

Abstract

This article aims to understand and analyze the impacts of tourism on the labor market in the city of Concordia, Entre Ríos, from the perspective of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). As a comprehensive research proposal, Goal 8 has been selected, which addresses decent work and economic growth with social inclusion, as well as continuous, inclusive, and sustainable growth, full employment and access to dignified work. The study seeks to examine the impacts of tourism on the labor market in Concordia and how the generation of decent work can stimulate economic development and community well-being. Additionally, it aims to provide a reflection grounded in the local context on the contribution of tourism to achieving the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda in the city. Empirical data and evidence on the importance of tourism in job creation are presented. The methodology includes a systematic literature review, background analysis, documentary analysis, and quantitative and qualitative techniques for data interpretation and analysis, such as semi-structured surveys with key stakeholders in the sector. The software Atlas.ti is used for the interpretation of non-standard data. The results highlight issues associated with variables such as job instability, marked seasonality, insufficient skilled workforce, and limited awareness of the SDGs and the 2030 Agenda.
