Abstract
This article delves into the “reconstruction” of the “map” of European travellers who got around and stayed in present-day Argentinean territory. Special attention was paid to the contribution of Alfred du Graty and Martin de Moussy to the construction of the “historical memory”, of a national imaginary and of the “narration of nation” in their roles as representatives of Argentinean Confederation in two Universal Exhibitions in Paris (in 1855 and 1867). The interventions of two pedagogue travellers: Amadeo Jacques and Pedro Scalabrini, were analized, as outstanding characters who took a starring part in the configuration of the pedagogical field in these latitudes, at the same time that their works appear strongly influenced by the relationship with “the other” / “the otherness”. Some keys were proposed to reserach on the forms of visuality of european travellers, focusing on the case of Hermann Burmeister, taking into account a delimitation on the landscape, nature and urban scenaries.
